Mind OC Receives Nonprofit of the Year Recognition

Senator John Moorlach honors Mind OC for its effort to achieve optimal mental health and wellness among all residents in OC

Sacramento, Calif. – June 5, 2019 – Mind OC today announced it was recognized as a 2019 California Nonprofit of the Year at the California Nonprofits Day luncheon. Republican California State Senator John Moorlach representing the 37th district, selected Mind OC for its efforts to address mental health and addiction in Orange County. Mind OC was one of a hundred other nonprofits honored by state senators and assembly members.

“Achieving optimal mental health for every resident in Orange County is a collaborative effort, and we’re humbled by this honor and the support of Senator Moorlach,” said Dr. Richard Afable, president of MindOC.

Mind OC was established to help lead Be Well Orange County, the transformative initiative bringing together public, private, academic and faith-based organizations, as well as others, to create a coordinated system of mental health care and support for all Orange County residents.

“Mind OC’s focus on mental health and wellbeing is vital for our community,” said Senator John Moorlach. “This organically initiated nonprofit brought a fresh approach to one of the most complex topics we face, not only in Orange County, but in the state and country as well. Mind OC will continue to be a driving force in delivering optimal mental health and wellness.”

“Nonprofits are often hidden in plain sight,” explains Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits). “California Nonprofits Day is an opportunity for our elected officials to celebrate the good work they see nonprofits doing in their districts, and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits in our communities.”
